Legislative efforts are underway to expand the social pension program for seniors. The proposed measure aims to provide non-indigent seniors with a ₱500 monthly pension, which would gradually increase to ₱1,000 over five years. Currently, around 4.085 million indigent seniors receive a ₱1,000 monthly pension. If enacted, the expanded program could benefit an additional three million seniors. Advocates are urging the Senate to pass this bill promptly to address the financial needs of the elderly amid rising living costs.
